Volunteering

Volunteer activities

Rehabilitation: Volunteers work closely with the physiotherapy and occupational therapy staff and can assist the patients by encouraging and monitoring them during their individualized treatment sessions and group exercise classes. Volunteers can also provide a supportive social visit to patients in their rooms. Volunteers can participate weekdays in a morning or afternoon session on a weekly basis.

Medical Escort: Volunteers can provide companionship and support when they accompany residents to medical appointments at local health institutions. Transportation is provided by taxi or adapted bus. Volunteers do not use their own cars. Volunteers must be available weekdays for a minimum 4 hour period or more.

Recreation: Volunteers support and encourage patients through recreational activities designed to stimulate a patient’s cognitive and physical condition. Volunteers work with the recreation staff to motivate, assist and encourage patients in activities such as exercise programs, social interaction, games, musical and cultural programs, etc.

Walking program: Volunteers assist patients in rehabilitation with a walking program that is designed to extend their individualized treatment plan. Volunteers can walk with a patient, with the supervision of staff, while providing support and socialization.

Saturday rehabilitation program: The Richardson Hospital is providing rehabilitation services on Saturdays. Volunteers assist the patients by encouraging and monitoring them during their individualized treatment sessions and group exercise classes. There is also a possibility of offering recreational activities, social visits and accompaniment to the garden area. Volunteers can participate in a morning or afternoon session.
